We Don’t Waste shares new app and volunteer opportunities

We Don’t Waste (WDW) is a 2021 Impact100 grantee and wanted to share some volunteer opportunities for individuals.  Our Impact100 grant supported three technology improvements.  WDW just launched one of the products we funded, an app that individual volunteers use to make “food runs.”  Volunteers pick up small, designated food donations and deliver them immediately to nonprofits where it’s needed. Training materials are built into the app so there is no need to attend an in-person session to start volunteering.  They are ready for volunteers!  Here’s how you can hop onto Careit:

  1. Check out the Careit App Food Recovery page on the WDW website.
  2. If you’re interested,  visit this page to be added to our Careit team and create an account.
  3. Once you have created an account, you will be prompted to complete a food safety training and take a short quiz. This process takes about 15 minutes.
  4. Start recovering food! Once your online training is complete, you will be able to start signing up for (aka claiming) food runs in the app.

“The Careit app makes volunteering with We Don’t Waste so simple and easy. The app is very user-friendly with simple sign-ups and helpful reminders. I think it’s a brilliant way to get more people involved in food recovery around the city. “ — Rachel

“I’m really loving the Careit app! It takes food recovery volunteering to a whole new and exciting level. Not just where the food comes from but get to take it to the place that will actually get it to those who need it the most! I pick a day and pick a location that fits my schedule.” — Dave
